About SPL

We are a group of researchers in the Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech, studying how people, technology, and organizations interact to optimize the performance of complex systems. We use a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods from industrial and systems engineering, computer science, and organizational studies to understand how social and technical factors impact the design, deployment, and management of technology-intensive systems, such as transportation systems and healthcare systems. Our goal is to design systems that are safer, more effective, and more efficient.
